Raze the Folkin’ Roof Concert in aid of the RBH Cancer Centre

Raze the Folkin’ Roof is the next charity gig in the Raze the Roof program of fund raising for the RBH Cancer Centre. It is the brilliant coming together of the Reading Music community including artists, venue owners, related charities such as MacMillans and the Royal Berkshire Charity (RBH) and local media.  

The evening features four fantastic folk bands and artists, well known in the area. It is especially exciting to see them together for one evening of wonderful music. 

The performers are: Moonrakers, Tomorrow Bird, Lynn Whiteland and Dream Sellers.

Moonrakers: 

Oxford’s much-toured 4-piece band, Moonrakers (Celtic harp, cello, stringed instruments, whistles, female/male vocals), pride themselves on having brought traditional and contemporary folk music to new audiences in village halls, churches, arts centres and festivals across the UK. With songs and tunes from the English, Irish and Scottish tradition as well as their own compositions, they’ve been described as “startlingly talented” (Oxford Times), with five albums of “exquisite music “(BBC) and “truly wonderful” (Wycombe Festival) performances. 2023 saw the launch of their latest album ‘Green to Gold’ which has received glowing reviews in the music press (“The real deal”, The Living Tradition; “Uplifting, sensitively crafted songs and tunes” FATEA magazine).  Tomorrow Bird 

Tomorrow Bird is a multi-award-winning Americana-Folk duo, forged by the combined talents of Jen Bird and Simon Driscoll. Inspired by a rich tapestry of timeless Folk and Americana music influences (including The Civil Wars, Fleetwood Mac, and The Milk Carton Kids) this spell-binding duo have left audiences transfixed, and are making their mark on the worldwide folk scene. Their captivating shows are a heartfelt celebration of exquisitely crafted songs, infused with stunning harmonies, to provoke thought and inspire hope. 

Lynn Whiteland 

Lynne Whiteland is a singer/songwriter who, for 40 years sang with the Reading based duo, Tudor Lodge, recording 7 albums. Her singing partner, John Stannard passed away in 2020 and now Lynne has gone back to her roots as a solo artist. She has since recorded 2 solo albums which are a mixture of self-penned songs and acoustic covers. Lynne is well known around the local music scene for her heartfelt songs, many reflecting her own life experiences and delivers them with sensitivity and sprinkles of humour.” 

 Dream Sellers 

Reading’s own kings and queens of folk-rock, Dream Sellers are regular favorites in the pubs, clubs and festivals in Berkshire and beyond. They have a wide repertoire of originals and classic covers. In the last year Mike Bostock has launched the Raze the Roof music for charity program of which ‘Raze the Folkin Roof’ is one.
